Sleeping Beauty

Maybe sleeping beauty wanted to be asleep.
Maybe she wanted the numbness,
Finding comfort in the dark.

Maybe she hated the way men looked at her,
And was tired of pretending.
Maybe she was just tired.

When sleeping beauty heard a witch was in town,
She gathered all her material things,
And offered them in return for a potion.

She dined one last time in her beloved garden,
And with a sigh of relief
staged her death.

When the prince came,
He saw her and coveted what was not his.
He could not help but notice those red, red lips.

And when the prince proved his valor by saving the princess,
Charming the town,
Becoming a hero,

Sleeping beauty woke to a cold palace,
Loveless, and
Without a garden.
